1st MTPJ synthetic cartilage implant

An alternative treatment to fusion of the 1st MTPJ, is to insert a synthetic cartilage implant into the arthritic joint. This preserves movement of the joint but prevents the painful worn out joint surfaces from rubbing against each other and causing pain.
