Bunion Surgery

Most commonly, Bunion (Hallux valgus) correction surgery involves ‘osteotomies’ (bone cuts) designed to remove bumps and allow the alignment and position of the bones to be corrected. There are numerous types of osteotomies and the type chosen will depend on the exact nature of the deformity and underlying process.

In cases where the joint surfaces at the base of the big toe are very arthritic as well as incorrectly aligned, then fusion (arthrodesis) surgery may be needed instead of osteotomies to get the best outcome.
